NSRA Billing Rod Run
After an absence of six years I finally went back to the Billing
rod run. I had become a bit disillusioned with rod runs as they
had lost the feeling that it was about having fun with cars and
became more of how much money you had in your ride and who
had done the work.I suppose I am and always will be a grass
roots rodder preferring wherever possible to do my own work.
And yes I know that not everybody has the skills or knowledge
but that is part of it for me learning as I go along, if you get
stuck there are always plenty of people out there willing to
give advice and even help you out occasionally.
So finally the Edsel was up and running after I had fitted new
billet steel timing gears( No chain to wear out or go slack any
more), distributor, multi-spark ignition control module, new
coil, and water pump. And new HT leads bought whilst at the
show.
A good run down and another quick set up in the new caravan
(well new to us) and time to sink a cold one.
My daughter Michelle had come with us (a 13 year absence
for her) and it felt like old times..I didn't realise how much I had
missed the atmosphere of a Rod Run but sat there relaxing
with a cold one and listening to the rumble of V8's and
watching those sweet rides rolling pass it felt like heaven .
Friday night and over to the marquee for the usual party and
what a great night was had. Catching up with a lot of old
friends whom I hadn't seen for a long time.
But alas it had to end and for some reason it ended early.
Not too worry though for as usual it carried on back at camp.

Saturday
Saturday is a sit back and chill out day and thats exactly what
I did. The NSRA had organised a cruise to a local beer festival
(recommended when your driving) and that departed around 12
midday and it was well attended, those returning later on
agreed it was up to the usual standards. The rest of the
afternoon consisted of walking the numerous trade stands
and sampling the delights of the showfield and beer tent.
Ginner debuted his new project a Chevrolet Corvair pickup.
Powered by a flat six it sounded remarkably like a VW on
steroids but was one hell of a sweet ride.
Ford Pop Ute was a factory
option...in Australia.One very
KOOL rod and sounded sweet
as well,reminded me of
growing up in Oz.....
Long time Hotrodder and friend Paul Kennedy turned up on
Saturday with his 33 Willy's. This is an ex US drag racer from
the 60's and has been brought back to life in one of it's  race
paint jobs ....
Camp Blacktop certainly had a varied selection of vehicles...
Sunday...Hot Day  &
Even Hotter Cars
