Steel City Cruisers 28th Rod Run 2005

I woke to a thoroughly miserable day(this time the forecasters got it right with the weather). At midday the cruise takes place and usually ends up at a truckstop near the M18 but this year they had decided to head for Elsecar which is a little village near Barnsley. It has a working railway museum and Heritage centre. The weather didn't let up and after a couple of hours most people had headed off back to the show Ground once back at the site there was nothing much to do except spend the afternoon in the bar well at least it was dry and warm in there, and you could be first in line for the free evening meal. After being fed it was time for a quick shower in readiness for the Saturday night party in the sports hall which Steel City members decorate to look like a posh marquis. The night went quickly again and soon it was time to head back to camp and again. A lot of people like to finish off the night with more beer and a barbie back at their respective camp and much partying could be heard well into the early hours of Sunday morning, me I went to bed at around 2:45 again (Such a lightweight) And so to Sundays Show and Shine

For many Northern Rodders this is the last show of the season and marks the long
wait until next season. It is one of the best Club shows and has always been one of
my favourite shows.
Held at the Steel works sports ground and although the name of the steel works has
changed many times over the years Steel City Cruisers have not changed the format.
A good campsite Event T-Shirt and free evening meals are included in the entry price
which has always been very reasonable. This is a local show for me being only 47
miles and an hours drive away and one where a good turnout of my club Rainy City
Cruisers is guaranteed for a final blowout to end the season.
My daughter Megan and I had set off early as the pre-entry for this show is limited
and getting the regular spot where we set up is not always possible. After a trouble
free run over Woodhead and onto the Mi we came off 2 junctions later and arrived at
around 1:45 pm. At 2:15 pm I was sat back relaxing with a brew that Steve Roberts
had kindly made for me and this was with the new caravan that we had only picked
up the previous Wednesday.
Gary "Brooky" Brookes was the next to arrive in his daily as he is still looking for a
new project since selling his 56 Chevy Stepside at this years Supanats, closely
followed by Bob Booth in his Model A 5- window coupe. They quickly set up and we
were soon sat back with a beer and caught up on whats been happening as I hadn't
seen them since last year. (Mainly due to my last Job) I could see Pauline and Stewart
arrive so Megan and I went over to meet and greet them.
The Blacktops camp was on the opposite side of the field to us and this is the only
show where I don't camp with them and I hope they understand that although I am a
member I will always be a Rainy City Cruisers first as I have been a member for
longer than I can remember. Eventually my better half arrived in our daily driver and
got herself ready and off we went to the night do in the social club.
It is one if those shows where you seem to meet up with people that you haven't
seen for ages and this year again was no exception. Again closing time came around
too soon and it was time to go back to camp where no body seemed to want to go to
bed, but time was marching on and my bed was calling. I bid my good nights and hit
the sack.

Must be hard for Ray and Joy Young to decide which Chevy to take out. Rays recently completed 57 Nomad looked the "Dogs B*******
