Billing 2005

Well what a brilliant weekend at Billing. We arrived mid afternoon on Friday and set up camp. There were already a few
of the Blacktops there and spaces had been saved for us. We were in an ideal spot just on the other side of the small
bridge on the main road into the site, just right for watching what was coming in. My father in law Stewart's Apache
pick-Up was making it's debut and apart from a couple of stops on the way down (the timing was slightly out)  it made it
down with no major problems.

Friday night in the marquee was a laid back affair with music provided by a DJ and a few beers were drunk and one or
two people whom I hadn't seen since last year metup with. All too soon it was time to head back to camp for the
traditional barbecue and then bed.

Saturday was an average rod run day with time being split between walking around the trade stands and the campsite
checking out the various motors that were there. There was a steady stream of arrivals although mostly late model stuff
a few 50's/60's arrivals kept it interesting.

I had arranged to collect some parts from US Automotive  so I paid a visit to their stand and came away with a bit more
than I had ordered.  Some bit's and peices I needed for the garage were picked up at the various other trade stalls and
the wallet felt a bit lighter than when I started out.

I got back to the caravan to find that my missus and mother-in-law had decorated the caravan with banners pronouncing
to all and sundry that it was my birthday  I saw the funny side after a while and cracked open a couple of beers. The rest
of the afternoon was taken up with the occasional drink and just sitting back watching the cars roll in and around the
road system.

Saturday night was a bit of a blur as mucho lager drunk. The group that played were apparently the Rimshots and had a
hit back in the seventies but to be honest I don't remember them, anyway most people seemed to enjoy them. After the
band had finished the DJ came back on and had everybody rocking away  to some great tunes to keep the party
atmosphere going right up to the end.

Back to the campsite and straight to bed as the weather was freezing. I hope it will be warmer tomorrow.

50's Ford Fairlane Convertible was magnificent.

Woke up Sunday to the sun shining. It looked like it was going to be a glorious day .There was a steady stream of cars
arriving and after a good breakfast I helped Stewart get the truck ready for the show field, and rode down with him. The
field was packed and we ended up near the back but this gave us a good opportunity to browse amongst the many rows
of cars on show.

There were many late model pick-ups and saloons about with a lot of Chevy's present and I spotted 1 lonely Edsel (a 58
Ranger 4-Door) which Alison informed was up for up for sale recently. I didn't get chance to speak to the owner as he
had gone for a walk.

The weather stayed good for the rest of the day. We had to set of back home at 2:30 as we had a 3 1/2 drive back
home and I was on an early start next day for work I missed the prize giving . All in all it was a great first show of the
season for me and I hope the rest will be as good.
