The A.A.C.I put on another fantastic show at Billing. Mediterranean
weather guaranteed a good turnout.
We set off for Billing on Thursday night at 7:15 PM as I had to go to Hauser Race cars with my
father-in -law Stewart on Friday morning, so they could fix a leaking  half shaft oil seal.  We had a
good run down and arrived at around 10:30 PM. After setting up the caravan it was time for a
couple of beers to cool down as it was still hot and humid, the forecast for the weekend was sun,sun
and even more sun so promising a great weekend.
Up early and off to Hauser's, this was the first time that I had been out on the road in Stewarts truck
and was I impressed; you bet I was, it handles like a modern car and gave a really comfortable ride.
We arrived at Hauser's and they quickly had the truck up on the ramp and the half shaft removed.
Whilst they were busy with the truck I had a look round the workshop and the work that was being
done was unbelievable; how about an F100 pick up with an all alloy big block Ford with hemi
-heads direct port nitrous injection and too top it off one of the biggest blowers I have ever
seen, estimated B.H.P how does 1200 sound and this truck is destined for the street. The owner is 60
years old  and must have nerves off steel; also spied a 1953 Plymouth wagon that is being built as a
purely strip car  that I would have gladly taken home with me. (Me being the numpty that I can be
left the camera in the truck and couldn't get it so I was unable to get any pictures). After a couple of
hours and a few cups of tea they had solved the problem and we set off back too Billing.  When we
arrived back, there had been a lot of arrivals and it was  filling up.

Bob Draper's beautiful 58 2 door Pacer was
the only Edsel on the Saturday Show field
Stunning pair of Mopar station wagons
I still have a soft spot for the
Chevy El-Camino's, rating
them above the Ford
Ranchero
With the temperature rising throughout the day, when the kids
had finished in the pool it was time for the adults (or is that
large kids) to play. It made a good way to keep cool and was
great fun too boot. The cars kept rolling in from early morning
and we were told that the site was full by early evening with
an estimated 28,000 units. This is on a par with Americana and
judging by the sight's we saw when we went for a cruise round
I don't think they were wrong.
I had arranged to collect some parts that I had ordered from U S Automotive and went to collect
them. There were plenty of traders stalls and whilst browsing I bought some bits and pieces for
the garage mainly tools ( you can never have enough tools). After collecting the parts from US
Automotive I went over to where Alison (Edselmom)  and Paul Organ were camped I had
spotted her 59 when we were cruising round earlier. Even though I had often spoke  with her
and Paul via the Internet it was a pleasure to finally meet them. Their knowledge of Edsel's in
the UK and there owners (past and present) is amazing. She lent me her photo album of the
aforementioned Edsel's and I will scan the pictures and  update the owners pages soon.
After  a bite to eat and a  refreshing shower  it was time to head over to the marquee to partake
of the evenings entertainment. The A.A.C.I always book a good band for the Saturday night
and  this time they had got it right ( although some people might not agree). They had booked
the UK Beach Boys. I have seen this band before and as I am a Beach Boys fan  I was looking
forward to seeing them perform. They didn't disappoint and were fantastic, and judging by the
reception they got the majority of the crowd  thought so to. The marque was full but with the
weather still being so hot a lot of people stood/sat outside where it was slightly cooler. All too
soon it was time to head back  and light the bar-b-cue  have  a couple of more beers and then
bed.
